On behalf of the organising committee I am delighted to bring you the inaugural Food Safety Conference—Future Directions 2004. The idea of a conference to look at food policy and regulatory issues from an international and national perspective has been overwhelmingly supported by many agencies. The proposed program is a reflection of both this interest and expertise that can be found within Australia and beyond.
Australia has a vibrant and dynamic food industry that produces one of the safest food supplies in the world. This result is achieved by a strongly collaborative approach to food safety issues from all sectors involved in producing, processing, distributing and regulating food. As well as this, our industry has seen a recent increase in consumer participation and a growing expectation that consumers will have greater access and more choices about the variety of foods than ever before.
In this environment there are many opportunities for us to learn from each other by providing and exchanging insights and ideas designed to benefit both consumers and industry. The conference does this by promoting discussion around issues like; international trends and experiences, meeting consumer expectations and support of industry innovation.
I encourage you to join us in October at the Food Safety Conference 2004 – “Future Directions” and look forward to meeting many of you there.
Our Invitation To You
Barbara Wilson, Chief Executive Officer, Safe Food Queensland;
Food Safety Conference Organising Committee Member
Being so fortunate as to live and work in sunny Queensland, only an hour’s drive from the Gold Coast, I am very pleased to invite you to join us on there for the Food Safety Conference—Future Directions 2004. The Gold Coast is an ideal venue for a conference such as this because, like the food industry, it is growing and developing at a rapid rate.
The newly completed Gold Coast Convention and Exhibition Centre is Queensland’s leading conference venue and provides first class meeting facilities. It is located in the hub of the Gold Coast’s most exciting attractions and within walking distance of a diverse range of accommodation options and of course, one of Australia’s premium surf beaches.
The culture and entertainment at the heart of the Gold Coast—are just a stone’s throw away. I wish all the participants an enjoyable and successful conference and hope you enjoy all the delights that the Gold Coast has to offer.
